This summer, I’m thrilled to be working on an exciting community project—Willard The Tiger! As an artist, creating art for people is one of my passions, but this project goes beyond just beautifying a wall or window—it’s all about connection, fun, and local pride.
What Is Willard The Tiger?
Willard The Tiger is a community-based art project inspired by our local school mascot—the tiger! The idea is simple but powerful: I’ll be painting custom black-and-white tiger mini murals on the walls or windows of various local businesses, and each one will have its own unique personality and style. These tigers won’t just be basic wall art; they’ll be part of a larger scavenger hunt, encouraging locals to explore our town, and find the tigers.
The Inspiration Behind the Project
Our community has always been a dynamic and tight-knit place, and I wanted to create something that could celebrate that. The tiger, as a symbol of strength, courage, and pride, felt like the perfect mascot to represent our town and the spirit of its people. By placing these mini murals throughout local businesses, I hope to inspire a sense of unity, while also adding some fun and adventure into our everyday lives.
A Scavenger Hunt for Everyone
One of the most exciting aspects of Willard The Tiger is the interactive scavenger hunt that will accompany the project. As more tigers pop up in different locations, families, friends, and individuals will be encouraged to find as many of them as they can! Whether you’re a lifelong resident or just passing through, this hunt offers a unique way to engage with local businesses and explore hidden gems in our town.
Collaborating with Local Businesses
I’ve already begun working with some amazing local businesses that are excited about their very own Willard The Tiger mini murals. One of the first was for Apple Market, we had fun discussing what would represent the store and where the tiger would go. Another collaboration was with an architect firm, where we designed a tiger with tools and pencil behind his ear—an adorable and playful twist that suits the atmosphere perfectly. Each business is putting its own creative stamp on the tiger, making every mini-mural a one-of-a-kind.
What’s Next for Willard The Tiger?
The project is just getting started, and I can’t wait to see where it goes! I’m currently reaching out to more local businesses, and we’re brainstorming unique tiger designs that reflect the personality of each space. The goal is to create a network of mini murals that connect our community, not just physically, but also through shared experiences.
